The EWB Action Day and the #EBACIOUS initiatives campaign were significant leadership moments for many young people. Through these activities, the new generation of leaders has gained experience as a major national movement working to make Canada a leader in international development. « I was dazzled by the accessibility of this event. Many Canadians believe that political processes are not accessible, resulting in a lack of autonomy among the population. I learned how important it is to know what you are talking about and to refute arguments to consolidate your positions. The day of action of ISF also made me want to continue to engage on the social level. I’m looking for new ways to get involved and stay engaged. «
Stephannie Veenbaas , a fourth year student in sociology and sustainability at Concordia University and a former short-term intern at ISF in 2016, recently had the opportunity to attend, with EWB, the Prime Minister’s announcement Trudeau on the creation of Canada’s development finance institution in Montreal. This event, as well as the participation in six meetings with MPs and federal MPs during the 2017 action day, including a meeting with Minister Bibeau, helped the student understand the importance of her role and of his voice in the process.
« The ISF Day of Action convinced me that this work is effective and made me feel better. I was already eager to start again! My participation in EWB activities helped me push my limits and discover skills that I did not even know I possessed. I was able to educate people about the cause of EWB Canada by taking advantage of my knowledge and motivation. «
Alain Chelala, current chair of the McGill Chapter, participated in the 2017 Action Day and met with the Minister of International Development and two other MPs. This experience allowed him to see the power of each person by making his voice heard
