SDG 4
Quality Education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

With a global population of almost 8 billion people and growing, more resources, safer schools, and good policies are needed to ensure that students everywhere receive a quality education.

Around the world, 263 million children and youth are currently out of school – including 61 million children of primary school age. But we can change this.

From 2000-2015, primary school enrolment went up from 83% to 91% worldwide, and the number of children of primary school age enrolled in school doubled in sub-Saharan Africa. In large part, this was due to higher investments in education, more teachers and classrooms, and removing barriers for the most marginalized.

While Canada’s public schools are among the best in the world, the education system is deeply unequal. In First Nations communities, more than 50 percent of students do not complete high school.

A quality education is key to poverty eradication, gender equality, and sustainable development. Let’s ensure that people of all ages have access to the education they need to thrive by 2030.
