Investment Committee

Guiding EWB investment into innovative ventures within the Small and Growing Business portfolio.

To ensure we make the right investments and foster innovators that closely align with the EWB mission, we have formed an Investment Committee. The committee’s primary objective is to oversee and guide investments in, and additions to, the Small and Growing Business ventures portfolio. The Investment Committee ensures a robust approach to selection, monitoring, and value-add of companies of companies within the portfolio.

  • The Investment Committee

    Piers Cumberlege has had an international career working in and with multi-national corporations, private equity, governments and civil society organisations across Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. Currently Vice-Chair of the Investment Committee of Global Sustainable Capital Management; Head of UK for professional services firm All You Need for Growth; Director of global sustainability consultancy South Pole Group. Formerly Head of Partnership at the World Economic Forum.

    Piers has significant experience in Sustainable Economic Development. He was Head of Direct Investments at Moscow-based Delta Capital, managing a large multi-sector portfolio. More recently he co-managed the Canada Investment Fund for Africa. In 2009 he established an SME social venture fund in West Africa.

    Piers has a strong personal engagement in civil society: formerly Director of CARE Canada, Chair of CARE Enterprise Partners; currently Investment Committee of Engineers Without Borders; advises and participates in Crossroads Foundation’s A Day in the Life of a Refugee simulation.

    A creative thinker and dynamic business leader, Gregory has a long history of early-stage start-up successes across multiple industries having served as President & CEO of Extreme Packet Devices (EPD), and VP Technology at Cadabra Design Automation. In addition to serving on technology start-up boards, he is an active investment committee member of Engineers Without Borders Canada.

  • The Investment Committee

    Mr. Parkes is the Managing Principal of Injaro Investments Limited. Prior to Injaro, Mr. Parkes was a Director at Knox D’Arcy Investment Management, a UK-based fund manager and activist private equity investor. His previous experience spans consulting and investment banking with firms such as Accenture, Merrill Lynch, UBS and Technoserve, where he advised Ghanaian entrepreneurs on strategy and business development. He has completed transactions ranging in size from US$30mn to US$0.6bn and has co-authored a business case that forms part of the Private Equity in Emerging Markets curriculum at the Wharton School.

    Mr. Parkes holds a MEng. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering with French (First Class Honours) from the University of Manchester and an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Jerry is a Ghanaian national.
