SDG 8
Decent Work and Economic Growth

Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

To live in a more prosperous and fair world we need to create strong, vibrant economies where everyone shares in the benefits of economic growth, and people can live and work with dignity.

An estimated 600 million new jobs must be created by 2030 in order to keep up with the growth of the working age population around the globe. About 780 million women and men are currently working one or more jobs but still not being paid enough to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

In Canada, over 2 million people work in precarious and temporary employment, and most of the new jobs being created are precarious. Three of Canada’s provinces have raised the minimum wage to $15, however, as a result of public pressure and civil society organizing.

Economic prosperity and opportunities for decent work are critical for safe, stable societies. By 2030, we can create vibrant economies that benefit everyone!
