SDG 9
Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation

Infrastructure provides the basic physical systems and structures essential for businesses to thrive. The growth of industry, particularly manufacturing, is a driver of economic growth. With innovation, technological advances can accelerate progress and solve the world’s most persistent challenges.

Innovation is also essential for the creation of new sustainable industries, which require investments in research and development. Developing countries spend almost 8 times as much on research and development than the least developed countries (as a proportion of their GDP), widening existing inequalities.

In Canada, as well, we need to invest in infrastructure, industry and innovation to improve our public transit systems, expand the availability of affordable housing, and prepare for the impacts of climate change.

Let’s ensure that our infrastructure, innovation and industries are inclusive and sustainable, and meet everyone’s needs.
