There are many ways we can make the world a better place. A seemingly unlimited number of combinations for how we can develop our perceptions, thoughts and behaviours to solve problems, change policies and shift systems.
You’re with us because you believe there are enough resources in the world, and enough people who care, to end poverty and inequality in our lifetime. You’re with us because you believe that all people regardless of where they were born deserve to live with dignity and have the opportunities they need to thrive. You’re with us because you believe we can make it happen.
This is the spirit of xChange 2019, an annual conference EWB has organized every year for 18 years to courageously commit to its community, and its mission to end poverty and inequality.
xChange 2019 celebrates limitless possibility. It challenges each of us to think beyond the confines of our education and environment about how we can transform systems to be more inclusive, fair and sustainable. It invites us to examine new ways to inspire ingenuity, take collective action, and exercise citizenship.

Boundlessness speaks to the contemporary mindset of our community. We are no longer bound to traditional ideas of what it means to be an engineer, a designer, a business person, or an advocate. We no longer limit ourselves to the traditional trappings of our social, professional and national identities. We ask ourselves questions like:
- How much time do I spend with people who think, look and sound like me?
- How often am I engaged in activities, groups and conversations that are within my comfort zone?
- When was the last time I challenged my point of view?
When each of us explores how we can act compassionately for humanity, whether it’s through the events we organize, the choices we make as consumers, the issues we support as citizens or the conversations we start at school, work and home, we begin a process of transformation within that extends beyond our communities.
At xChange 2019, we have a chance to come together to celebrate this collective energy to build a more equal, sustainable, and compassionate world without poverty or inequality. Join us in January for an unforgettable three days of learning, connecting and action.
