SDG 11
Sustainable Cities and Communities

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

Most people around the world are either living in or moving into cities. This rapid urbanization has proved to be a challenge for many countries, as it puts strains on urban infrastructure and resources, and significantly contributes to environmental degradation.

Over the next four decades, the urban population is likely to triple in Africa and increase by 1.7 times in Asia.

In Canada, 81 percent of Canadians now live in an urban centre, compared to 45 percent in 1911.

If we take action now to ensure our cities are safe and sustainable, we can build healthy urban communities for all.
