News from the future! Amazon wins Global Employer of the Year Award for sixth consecutive year

Mega-employer Amazon has, for the sixth consecutive year, won the prestigious Global Employer of the Year Award, which measures employee satisfaction and quality of life. The employer is famous for providing above-living wages while requiring employees work a minimum of 20-hours per week, among other well-known progressive achievements.

“We knew that if we had happy employees, Amazon could be a part of making happy, healthy communities,” says Verónica Estavez, Amazon’s CEO who rose through the ranks after starting in a factory in Texas as a short-term contract migrant worker from Mexico. Under Estavez’s leadership, the company has radically transformed its business model.

“I’m proud to work at Amazon,” says Suyin Chang, a floor manager in Pittsburgh. “Ever since we began connecting local entrepreneurs to local consumers, I can go into work every day knowing I am contributing to the health of local businesses. Well,” she laughs, “I guess I don’t go in every day.”

The announcement of the Award also makes note of the laudable fact that Amazon employees registered a record number of patents in 2029. A spokesperson for Estavez attributes employee creativity and innovation to the fact that a 20-hour work week allows them to explore hobbies and interests, and affords them time to think.
