WHAT: The Next Solar System. WHEN: Before 2026.
Earlier this year, the Chimpanje Rural Health Centre in eastern Zambia came to life in a new way.
Working shoulder-to-shoulder with EWB Zambia, local leaders, health workers, and dedicated volunteers, the team installed a solar mini-grid that now keeps the lights on, powers critical medical equipment, and delivers running water to the entire facility. It’s more than an energy project — it’s a lasting system that the community can run and sustain for years to come.
Some of you may remember the highlights we shared after the commissioning ceremony — the joy and pride on the faces of those who made it possible. Today, we’re bringing you a closer look at one of them: Kanyanta Muluanda Makasa, a final-year electrical engineering student who volunteered to help design and install the Chimpanje system. His story is a glimpse into what happens when local expertise and global support work hand-in-hand. Watch Kanyanta’s story:
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more voices from Chimpanje and introducing the volunteers who are focused and working toward the next system installation.
Our goal: Raise $25,000 by August 31 to deliver another system by the end of this year.
