What Kanyena’s Senior Teacher Wants You To Know
With just days left until our September 7th deadline, we’re sharing another voice from Kanyena Primary School, the next solar grid installation site for Engineering Brighter Tomorrows.
Meet Mr. Simon Phiri, Senior Teacher at Kanyena. With 416 students, he sees every day how the lack of electricity holds both teachers and students back:
- Computers remain unused without electricity to power them.
- Classroom hours are cut short since teaching relies on daylight.
- Teachers struggle to prepare lessons, especially when managing multiple classes.
- During rainy or cold seasons, classrooms are often too dark for students to see the board clearly.
As Simon explains, power would change everything—making it possible for students to maximize their time in class, for computers to finally be used, and for teachers to prepare effectively.
Our goal is to raise $25,000 by September 7th to bring solar energy to Kanyena before year-end. Every contribution makes a difference (you’ll receive a receipt for your donation, big or small).
We’ve already seen the transformation at Chimphanje Health Centre, where solar power continues to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensures essential equipment is usable. Teachers like Simon are ready to bring that same change to Kanyena: illuminating classrooms, powering digital tools, and helping students thrive.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated. If you’re able, please consider increasing your gift or share Simon’s story with someone who would love to help power brighter tomorrows.
Thank you for your continued support.
