Role: Community Mobilization Coordinator
Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

Engineers Without Borders Canada brings people and ideas together to tackle the most crucial causes of poverty and inequality. We link people living in poverty with the opportunities they need to improve their lives by supporting social enterprises that serve their needs, by educating Canadians about de-colonized approaches to global development and by advocating for improved development related policies in Canada.
We are looking for a candidate who is highly engaging and charismatic, and eager to lead a community of youth advocates and change makers.
Reporting to the Campaign Communications Manager and working in tandem with colleagues in EWB’s Community Team, the Community Mobilization Coordinator is responsible for fostering engagement and mobilizing the Engineers Without Borders’ community across Canada towards achieving common impact goals.
Building and providing ongoing support to a robust, sustainable advocacy volunteer leadership network across Canada:
- Creating and managing a strong distributed team – recruitment, onboarding and training (retreat), bi-weekly engagement, and DT agenda / content for special events (e.g. Hill Day, xChange)
- Organizing regional Chapter Advocacy Executive training – content and facilitation, logistics
- Overseeing the deployment of policy & advocacy member learning sessions via the Distributed Team
- Finding and sharing policy & advocacy related opportunities for EWB’s Community members
- Managing event and programmatic logistics (e.g. costs, travel, etc.).
Create and coordinate situation-specific community mobilization activities and annual advocacy campaigns
- Work with EWB’s Policy and Advocacy Team and the Community Team to identify policy gaps and opportunities to mobilize EWB’s community towards specific advocacy goals
- Develop content for campaigns, making sure it resonates with EWB’s membership
- Develop action items, deliverables, timelines and campaign toolkits for Chapter Advocacy Executives and Community members
- Manage online and offline engagement platforms to support the Community’s advocacy efforts (e.g. New Mode, Pardot)
- Generate public awareness to empower and build excitement amongst EWB’s membership and broader Community on the campaign(s)
- Grow and actively engage broader public into supporting EWB’s policy asks, e.g. through the Hello2030 mailing list
Conceptualize, organize, facilitate and participate in events for EWB’s Membership, including:
- Initial MP meetings (early fall)
- Strengthen relationship between EWB and Parliament
- Inform MPs of our annual campaign/official policy ask
- Major Action for whole EWB community (winter)
- Demonstration of public support for official policy ask
- Targeted at Parliament
- Day of Action (spring)
- Advocacy training, meetings with MPs and annual campaign closing with the whole of EWB’s advocacy community in Ottawa
- Budget response/final ask for MP support
- Other projects, including conferences, retreats, partner campaigns, trainings, etc.

Qualifications
- Genuine passion for EWB’s Policy and Advocacy priorities and areas of focus.
- A minimum 1 year proven track record in community development or mobilization, campaigning, political advocacy, or related field.
- Experience leading policy advocacy and citizen engagement particularly in Canada or in a similar parliamentary democracy is a significant asset.
- Interest in being part of a fast-paced team that is working to solve some of the world’s greatest challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to translate public policy or complex concepts for broader public consumption and understanding.
- Demonstrated ability to network, speak publicly, and mobilize networks.
- Experience managing marketing or advocacy campaigns while leading a team of volunteers is essential.
- Excellent team player with superior interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Ability to communicate complex information clearly in writing and in oral presentations to a range of audiences.
- Proficiency at multitasking, working well under pressure and prioritizing a number of ongoing projects.
- Self-starter who is able to effectively take initiative, work independently, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Proficiency in French would be an asset.
Location
EWB is a remote work organization. The candidate should be based in Ottawa, the Greater Toronto Area, or Montreal and may be required to travel within Canada.
Compensation
This is a full-time, permanent position. Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous benefits package.
