Hazel Garcia

Hazel Garcia is a third-year mechanical engineering co-op student at the University of Alberta. She currently serves as the Vice President Internal for the UofA EWB chapter. Hazel is interested in how policy can drive meaningful and equitable change. She enjoys discussing societal issues and thinking about how engineering can go beyond technical work to make a broader impact.

Her background in philosophy has shaped her perspective and taught me to question assumptions, consider different viewpoints, and look beyond purely technical solutions. Which is why she enjoys conversations that explore both the social and engineering sides of a problem. She was drawn to the SCEC program after attending xChange 2026 because it aligns with my values and my interest in applying engineering to create meaningful change. Outside of work and academics, she enjoys traveling and exploring local food scenes.
