Gianna Osuobeni

Gianna Osuobeni is an Electronic Systems Engineering student at the University of Regina, driven by curiosity and a commitment to building engineering solutions that create real world impact. Currently developing her technical foundation in circuit analysis, control systems, and embedded systems, she is actively exploring how these concepts apply to power systems, energy infrastructure, and scalable technologies. Her work is not defined by what she has already mastered, but by her continuous pursuit of deeper understanding, practical application, and meaningful innovation.

Beyond technical development, Gianna has distinguished herself through leadership and initiative. She serves as Co President of Engineers Without Borders and Vice President of Events for the National Society of Black Engineers at the University of Regina, where she leads programs that foster collaboration, technical engagement, and inclusive participation in STEM. Through these roles, she has contributed to the planning and execution of multiple student focused initiatives, impacting over 100+ students through workshops, outreach events, and technical programming designed to improve engagement and confidence in engineering spaces.

Her passion for mentorship is further reflected in her role as an Undergraduate Engineering Lab Mentor with Educating Youth in Engineering and Science at the University of Regina, where she supports both university and grade school students in hands-on STEM learning. She assists in delivering circuit based lab activities, guiding students through concepts such as voltage, resistance, and system behavior, while fostering an inclusive learning environment. Through this role, she has supported the learning and development of 50+ students, helping bridge the gap between theory and practical application and increasing student confidence in technical problem solving.

Gianna’s approach to engineering is deeply shaped by her early commitment to community impact. Prior to her studies in Canada, she led and contributed to multiple youth focused initiatives in Nigeria centered on education, digital literacy, and empowerment. Through her collaboration with TechHerfrica, she played a role in raising approximately 500 dollars in funding, which was used to support the STEM education of students across 10 secondary schools. This initiative enabled the establishment of student-led learning groups, equipping participants with foundational coding and digital skills, and creating a ripple effect where trained students continued to teach their peers, increasing outreach and sustainability.

In addition, she led outreach programs and a summer initiative that provided young girls with both technical and practical skills, including introductory coding, digital literacy, and income generating skills such as hair braiding and basic entrepreneurship. These programs reached 30+ participants directly, with extended impact through community engagement and peer to peer knowledge sharing. Her work also included distributing essential resources to underserved students and facilitating conversations around personal development, education, and long term goal setting.

These experiences continue to influence how she approaches problem solving with a strong emphasis on accessibility, sustainability, and human centered design. Gianna approaches engineering not just as a discipline, but as a tool for change. With a systems oriented mindset, she recognizes that impactful solutions must consider not only technical design, but also the social and economic realities of the communities they serve.

Driven by curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to continuous growth, Gianna is focused on developing the technical depth and interdisciplinary perspective needed to contribute to large scale solutions in energy, infrastructure, and technology. She remains committed to using engineering not only to innovate, but to expand opportunity and create lasting, measurable impact.
