Dan Herman; Entrepreneur & EWB Board Member
Dan Herman is the creator of Their World Our Future, a content project that profiles tech entrepreneurs in emerging and developing economies. Based in Toronto, Dan has spent the past 15 years working at the intersection of innovation and economic policy. He is currently an expert advisor to the Government of Ontario on Intellectual Property and Commercialization, and a policy advisor to government agencies worldwide on innovation and growth through San Francisco-based Startup Genome. He has previously held executive roles in both the public and private sectors, including having been the executive director of innovation policy for the Department of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) where he shepherded the creation of the “Innovation Agenda” and was the architect of Innovation Canada and Innovative Solutions Canada. Prior, Dan was the co-founder and executive director of the Waterloo-based Centre for Digital Entrepreneurship and Economic Performance (DEEP Centre). He holds a PhD focused on the role of government in supporting innovation from the Balsillie School of International Affairs and a Masters (MSc) in Development Studies from the London School of Economics. He lives in Toronto with his wife and two children.
