Public Outreach
To help make Canada the most pro-development country in the world, EWB members engage Canadians, raising their awareness about the urgent need for human development. Our members regularly run events aimed at engaging Canadians in the fight against poverty. From car smashes, asking people to "smash poverty", to treadle pump demonstrations at local farmer's markets, to the hosting of all-candidates debates, EWB members are getting the word out.
Our members are also involved in bigger events that span the country from coast-to-coast such as EWB Day and the Make Poverty History Campaign.
EWB Day
Taking place each year during National Engineering Week, EWB Day is our largest public outreach campaign. EWB members talk to Canadians about international development and what they can do to improve the lives of people in some of the world's most impoverished communities.
Make Poverty History
The Make Poverty History Campaign is an international effort encouraging people in more than 50 countries to realize the immediate needs of developing world populations and to pressure their governments to fulfill the commitments made to the Millennium Development Goals. EWB members are promoting the campaign throughout 2005 and 2006, asking Canadians to demand the Canadian government commit to more and better aid, fair trade, debt forgiveness and an end to child poverty.
Community Groups & Engineering Associations Presentations
EWB members across Canada frequently deliver presentations to community groups and engineering associations about the important contributions being made by Canadians and Canadian engineers to development. If you are a member of a community group or engineering association and would like to have an EWB speaker present to your members, please send a request via email to info@ewb.ca or call (416) 481-3696.
