Member Learning
EWB is striving to continuously increase our members' understanding of international development and the contributions that Canadians can make towards human development. Through participating in our member learning program within their respective chapters, our members are increasing their skills and knowledge, becoming effective spokespeople in Canada for international development and overseas volunteers.
EWB members have the opportunity to learn about development and enhance their skills at several points throughout the year, including the EWB National Conference, Regional Leadership Retreats and Chapter Education Meetings.
National Conference
The EWB National Conference is Canada's largest annual international development conference. Held annually in January, it brings together hundreds of student leaders and professional engineers from across the country to explore and discuss the complexity of international development. In the past, our delegates have been challenged and inspired by speakers such as Stephen Lewis (UN Special Envoy to Africa), Lloyd Axworthy (former Minister of Foreign Affairs), Robert Chambers (international development author) and Lt. General Roméo Dallaire (Force Commander of the United Nations Mission to Rwanda).
In January 2008, the conference was held in Montreal, Quebec. Click here to visit the 2008 conference website

Regional Leadership Retreats
Throughout the summer months, EWB promotes the growth of effective leaders by hosting four regional leadership retreats for upcoming chapter leaders. These gatherings focus on developing specific leadership and communication skills, and bring together members from different chapters to share best practices and ideas.
Member Learning Meetings
Chapter education meetings, run by EWB members, are a series of participatory workshops about a variety of topics related to human development. EWB employs a peer-to-peer learning methodology, where members come together to learn from each other. Using EWB resources as background for their discussions, peers explore new ideas and develop new skills.
After participating in chapter education meetings, current and future leaders within EWB chapters are encouraged to further develop their knowledge and skills by attending the EWB National Conference and a Regional Leadership Retreat.
