Why we work in Canada
With a national tradition of leadership on international issues, Canadians have the potential to change the lives vulnerable rural Africans on a widespread scale. We know that by harnessing this power, EWB can have a more meaningful and lasting impact on the rural African communities with which we work.
EWB’s network is fostering a new relationship between Canadians and Africans - based not on handouts but on creating the changes needed to improve their lives.
Each year our 50,000 members directly engage Canadians through innovative and sophisticated public outreach events. Our aim is to educate and engage them with the specific actions they can take to have a direct impact on the lives of African families.
In Canada, we are:
- Advocating for more effective Canadian aid
- Promoting global engineering concepts
- Promoting Fair Trade
Since 2000, EWB's members have delivered development workshops to 125,000 high school students, designed global engineering curriculums that has been taught to 50% of Canada’s undergraduate engineering students, spoken with over 1,000,000 Canadians about Africa’s development, and successfully influenced improvements in Canada’s delivery of development assistance.
